The Canucks Take Manhattan!
That’s right friends. We are thrilled to be making our New York debut this summer in a big way. Our song “It’s Been A While” will be included in the third annual Cutting Edge Composers concert, an amazing opportunity for emerging songwriters to have their work performed by Broadway stars. This year’s concert is even more exciting because it is part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival (or NYMF), a three-week showcase for new musicals and cabarets.
Cutting Edge Composers has featured the work of some of our favourite songwriters including Pasek and Paul, Ryan Scott Oliver, Marcy and Zina, Jonathan Reid Gealt, Kerrigan and Lowdermilk, Adam Gwon, Miller and Tysen, and Joe Iconis. As if that list isn’t incredible enough, the broadway talent they get to perform the songs is ear-boggling, ranging from Tony nominees to original cast members of Rent, Spring Awakening, Hairspray, In The Heights and many more.
Needless to say we are incredibly honoured to be part of such an incredible initiative. So if you are in New York on July 23, 2012, please come and check it out! There are two shows (7:00 and 9:30 PM) and we recommend buying tickets in advance due to the intimate size of the space.
We will leave you with two of our favourite performances from past Cutting Edge Composer concerts. First up Jay A. Johnson and our pal Morgan Karr singing the adorable “Halfway” by Ryan Scott Oliver:
And here is Katie Thomson’s heartbreaking rendition of Jonathan Reid Gealt’s “No Reason At All”:
